Asia Pacific Education (APEDU) will acquire a majority stake in Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design, the award-winning college, considered to be the country’s leading private arts and design institution. Co-founder Michele Whitecliffe will stay on as President, board director and a shareholder of the company.

Whitecliffe final year student Sheena Taivairanga looks set to do great things in the fashion industry after she graduates. The Year 4 student has enjoyed stellar success this year, showcasing her creations at the 2017 Whitecliffe Fashion Show which took place earlier this month, as well as at the Pacific Fusion Fashion Show, which was held during New Zealand Fashion Week. Her designs garnered considerable press from Radio New Zealand and Paperboy Magazine.

Whitecliffe 2016 BFA Graphic Design graduate Harrison Sarsfield was awarded a Gold Pin in the Student Graphics section of the 2017 Best Design Awards.

Whitecliffe Fine Arts Senior Lecturer Christina Read received the First Runner-up award and $2500 in cash at the 2017 Wallace Art Awards, which were announced on September 4. The awards were established more than 25 years ago by Sir James Wallace, with the aim of supporting and expanding the visual arts in New Zealand and rewarding artists who create exceptional work.

Fashionistas from India winged their way Down Under recently to take part in an International Winter Fashion School programme organised by the Whitecliffe Continuing Education and Fashion Design departments. Fashion design students and faculty from New Delhi’s Pearl Academy participated in the three-week course which included practical workshops in fabric dyeing, embroidery, flax weaving, paper making, and an up-cycling project making bags from sampling squares.

Recent Whitecliffe Fine Arts graduate Kohl Tyler-Dunshea has won the Estuary Art and Ecology Prize 2017 – the only art prize in New Zealand “with ecology at its core”.
