Jennie Sherwin – a contemporary jeweller and graduate from The Learning Connexion – was one of just two New Zealanders whose worked was picked for the prestigious Artistar Jewels 2017 exhibition, which was held in the Palazzo Giureconsulti during Milan Fashion Week earlier this year.

Digital effects artist, and former TLC art student (and staff member), Sarah de Schot, has reached the pinnacle of what would be any special effect artist’s dream – winning an Oscar. She was part of a team at visual effects company Double Negative, which won an Oscar and a Bafta award for their work on the Christopher Nolan sci-fi movie, Interstellar, in 2014.

It was entirely appropriate that TLC graduate student, Emily Woods, aspiring police officer, animal lover and artist, was the one to paint Gazza's portrait. The four-year-old police dog was killed in a Porirua shooting on 22 April 2016. Gazza was shot dead at the scene during an armed incident with an offender that drew armed police and a helicopter to the neighbourhood. It is believed that he blocked a gunshot meant for his handler Constable Josh Robertson.

Yam Choon Hian signed up to study art and creativity at The Learning Connexion as part of eight weeks professional development leave, from February to April, during New Zealand’s summer season.

When TLC graduate Jamie Mackman arrived at the awards night for the 2015 Cliftons Regional Art Prize, she wasn’t having a good day. She probably wouldn’t have attended had it not been for the fact that she was a Wellington regional finalist. But the night turned out to be much, much better than she expected.
