After receiving 8,725 digital projects created by 2,752 students from more than 80 countries worldwide, The Rookies has announced its draft list for 2017 and Media Design School’s Bachelor of Media Design and Bachelor of Art and Design student cohorts have produced yet another stellar performance.

Bachelor of Media Design graduates Sherylene Chan and Bailey Hancox both return to The Rookies Graphic Design Rookie of the Year draft list in 2017. This is the second year that Chan (who was Runner-up in 2016) and Hancox (who was awarded Highly Commended last year) have both made this prestigious list.

Media Design School's Bachelor of Art and Design programme also performed strongly on the draft list, with third year student film ‘Little Big Bang’ nominated for the Film of the Year (Animation) and both ‘Accidents, Blunders and Calamities and ‘The Dragon's Scale’ nominated for Film of the Year (VFX). Pictured here is a still from ‘Little Big Bang’, which was created over the course of eight weeks (including post-production) by eight talented Bachelor of Art and Design students.

Black comedy ‘Accidents, Blunders and Calamities’ was produced by award-winning director James Cunningham and created by a team of 44 third year Bachelor of Art and Design students. Cunningham also produced ‘The Dragon’s Scale’, and the visual effects and animation post-production took a group of 26 third year Bachelor of Art and Design (3D Animation and VFX) students four months of intensive work to complete.

Several Media Design School students have also been named as The Rookies Oceania Internship Finalists, and will compete for the chance to intern with the top names in the industry.
